A seemingly plain clay pot magically transports Cucha, a selfish and lonely girl, from her town of Zapotoco, Mexico, to a mysterious jungle filled with eccentric characters. Using her knowledge of English and Spanish, Cucha encounters Parrot Rivera, a jungle muralist who paints the future; Señor Chapulin, a soccer star with the heart of the present; and Burro Burrito, a farmer who plows the past. But the evil Monkey King and his silly Sidekick know the clay pot is really a magical piñata and scheme to steal it from her. Through Cucha's journey, she discovers the magic of the mundane, the roots of cultural pride and the power of sharing. The Magic Piñata tours throughout the 2005 – 2006 school year to students in grades K through 5.

Please prepare a children’s story and a strong upbeat musical selection (16 bars) and bring sheet music in your key.  An accompanist will be provided.

Musical Director Biography

 

Timothy D. Turner has been performing professionally for 27 years in professional & commercial productions, on stage and screen, with celebrities such as Shirley Jones, Rita Marino & Marvin Hamlisch and groups like Canadian Brass & the King’s Singers.  He has directed and produced theatre, cabarets, stage shows, concerts and film for more than 20 years throughout the continental United States and Europe.  “The Magical Pinata” marks his 15th production with Storybook Theater Company and this show marks his 42nd production in the area since his relocation to Central Florida in 2001.  He holds a BM in Performance from Millikin University and works as a director, performer, performance coach, clinician, producer, composer, community organizer and writer.  Currently, he resides in Longwood, Florida just north of Orlando, but he travels extensively as a working professional.

Storybook Theater Company incorporates youth theater, school tours, summer drama camps, and theater education for all ages. Storybook educators design and conduct creative drama projects to meet specific needs such as oral language development, abuse recognition programs, and the development of social skill, - often in partnership with area schools, community resource agencies, and arts organizations.
